Reporting to Head of Global of Global Logistics, the Import and Export Specialist will be the central point of contact for all goods flowing both into and out of The Netherlands. They will be responsible for the seamless and compliant movement of project-based shipments worldwide. They will also have a deep understanding of EU and Dutch customs regulations will be used to not only manage day-to-day operations but also to identify strategic opportunities to enhance our business practices and minimize costs.
Major Responsibilities:
- Customs Clearance Management (Import): Prepare, review, and submit accurate import declarations to the Dutch customs authorities (Douane). Ensure all documentation is compliant with the Union Customs Code (UCC).
- Export Management & Compliance: Ensure all goods leaving the EU are correctly declared and compliant with EU and national export control regulations. This includes strategically exploring and utilizing the Automated Export System (AES) via the Dutch customs system.
- Strategic Compliance & Cost Savings: Actively leverage knowledge of special customs procedures to optimize shipping processes. This includes utilizing Inward Processing (IP) and Outward Processing (OP) to minimize duties and taxes on goods being temporarily repaired or processed.
- Special Licences & Regulations: Actively manage and apply for necessary special licences for importing and exporting goods. This includes compliance with EU regulations for controlled items such as Dual-Use items (managed via the national licensing authority) and sector-specific permits
- Tariff & Classification: Accurately determine and manage Harmonized System (HS) codes and the TARIC database for proper duty calculation (import) and classification (export). Harness digital technology to support data based decision making.

Job Specific Education Required:
- Professional Diploma in International Trade Compliance or equivalent
Work Experience Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a combined import/export logistics role, with a strong focus on EU customs procedures.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Dutch Customs Expertise: In-depth, practical knowledge of Dutch customs regulations, the Douane system, and procedures specific to major Dutch ports and airports.
- EU Customs & Export Controls: Strong understanding of the Union Customs Code (UCC) and EU export control regulations, including Dual-Use items and sanctions screening.
- Special Procedures Knowledge: Proven experience with Inward Processing (IP), Outward Processing (OP), and Temporary Admission (TA) procedures.
- Special Licences Management: Demonstrated experience in obtaining and managing national and EU-level special import/export licences and permits for regulated goods.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- Proactive & Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
